Escape to the picturesque surroundings of Scotland’s Loch Lomond, and immerse yourself in all things beekeeping with a two-day course at The Bee School.

Your weekend course is packed full of theory and practical knowledge on the ins and outs of becoming a beekeeper. You’ll be equipped with the skills you need to start your own apiary, maintain your equipment and understand more about the fascinating world of bees and pollination.

Knowledgeable beekeepers will teach you everything from hive construction to honey extraction, plus a practical beekeeping session to get to grips with the process hands-on. The perfect experience for anyone looking to learn more about these incredible creatures, all surrounded by beautiful views.

What happens on the day?

On arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by experienced beekeepers from this small, family-run company. You’ll be provided with everything you need for your two-day course, including a full bee suit, as well as a buffet lunch on both days and free-flowing hot and cold drinks throughout.

Your first day will see you taking a deep dive into the history of Scotland’s bees, hive construction and inspection, and finally a practical session. On your second day, you’ll learn more about bee behaviour, the Queen Bee, and honey extraction, finished with another practical session to maximise hands-on time.

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, while government restrictions apply in relation to Covid-19 we are offering free extensions on all experiences so you can take your experience when the time is right.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date

Participant guidelines

  • Minimum age: 12 (all under 18s must be accompanied by a participating adult)
  • Participants will need to be physically mobile in order to access the apiary 
  • The experience is unsuitable for those in wheelchairs as there is no wheelchair access, due to uneven ground of the woods
  • The experience is unsuitable for those with allergies to bees of any kind
  • Accomodation is not included
  • The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary

Availability

This experience is available on selected weekday dates throughout the year.

We recommend you book at least 3 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.

The experience is 2 full days, from 10:00 to 17:00 each day.

What about insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

How it works

All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a voucher and booking information to you or directly to the recipient, then you just need to check the info and book your experience.
