Perfect for any skill level, this Chef’s Experience offers the unique opportunity to try your hand at various tasks, including plating up and attending at the ‘Pass’ where the chefs’ creations are sent out to customers. You’ll also enjoy a light lunch with Head Chef Tom Clarke, and be invited to help with dinner preparation if you wish.
You can ask as many questions as you like and take notes along the way. Not only that, but you’ll also be able to come back at a later date with a friend to sample more of the stunning dishes on offer with a complimentary Three Course Menu du Jour Lunch for Two gift voucher.

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, while government restrictions apply in relation to Covid-19 we are offering free extensions on all experiences so you can take your experience when the time is right.
What happens on the day?
On arrival at the Michelin starred L'Ortolan restaurant in Reading, voted 20th in the Sunday Times Top 100 Food List, you’ll be greeted by staff and shown through to the kitchen where you’ll join Head Chef Tom Clarke and his team as they prepare for the lunch service at this award-winning restaurant.
This is a rare opportunity for you to experience various aspects of a fast-paced Michelin starred kitchen, including plating up and attending at the ‘Pass’. You’ll help the professional chefs present the food to the highest possible standards, and even have a go at the dinner service preparation if you wish.
As part of this experience you’ll receive a light lunch with the team and a voucher for a three-course lunch so you can return and enjoy a relaxed meal in the restaurant on another day.

- You should have a reasonable level of fitness as you will be standing for a long period of time

This experience is available Tuesday to Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
We recommend you book at least eight weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
This experience will begin at 09.00 and the lunch service will last until 16.00. Lunch will be served at approximately 11.30. The chefs will take a break from 16.00 until 18.00 when they will begin the dinner preparation. Participants are encouraged to stay for the dinner preparation, although you are welcome to finish your day after the lunch service. If you are staying for the dinner service the finish time will be around 22.30.
What about insurance?
The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

How it works
All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a voucher and booking information to you or directly to the recipient, then you just need to check the info and book your experience.
