Discover another side of historic Edinburgh, and sample some of Scotland’s most famous produce with this Edinburgh History of Whisky Tour including Tasting for Two.

You’ll meet your tour guide and discover all about Edinburgh’s role in taking whisky to the world. From King James IV to whisky production in Scotland and the locals who embraced the so-called water of life, including George Ballantine on South Bridge to Andrew Usher Jr at Nicolson Street – pioneers who exported their whiskies worldwide.

Your tour takes you to the candlelit Megget’s Cellar where you’ll sample four Scottish whiskies, under the guidance of your kilt-wearing expert. Learn everything you’ll ever need to know about whisky, from nose through to taste. Consider this your first step to becoming a connoisseur.

What happens on the day?

Your tour starts at the city’s Mercat Cross, Parliament Square, where you’ll meet your guide and set out on a tour of Edinburgh’s Old Town.

As part of your tour, you’ll stop off at the atmospheric Megget’s Cellar for a whisky tasting session. 

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, while government restrictions apply in relation to Covid-19 we are offering free extensions on all experiences so you can take your experience when the time is right.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date

Participant guidelines

  • Minimum age: 18
  • Please note that anyone deemed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to take part in the tour
  • The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary

Availability

The experience is available on selected Saturdays at 16.00.

We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.

Please allow up to 2 hours for the full experience. 

What about insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Please ensure you are familiar with the terms and conditions of the experience.

How it works

All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a voucher and booking information to you or directly to the recipient, then you just need to check the info and book your experience.
