The Painted Hall is an epic masterpiece of Baroque art, set within 18 acres of beautiful riverside grounds and historic architecture designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Learn all about its fascinating history, how it came to be a celebration of Britain’s naval power, and why it took Sir James Thornhill 19 years to complete. Your entry includes exhibits, expert talks and multimedia guides.

As part of your day, you can enjoy a guided tour of the Old Royal Naval College, as well as access to the Chapel, riverside grounds and the Victorian Skittle Alley. Round things off with a delicious afternoon tea at the Painted Hall Café.

What happens on the day?

Discover Britain’s own Sistine Chapel, the exquisite Painted Hall. The two of you can immerse yourselves in the history of this spectacular location, originally the site of King Henry VIII’s Greenwich Palace. Covering 4,000 square metres, there’s plenty to explore, with accessible exhibits and multimedia guides.

You can take a guided tour of the entire Old Royal Naval College grounds, visit the Nelson Room, and join a drop-in talk about the Painted Hall. Round things off with a delicious afternoon tea in the brand-new Painted Hall Café. You'll enjoy a selection of finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam and a selection of cakes as well as your choice of tea from the menu.

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, while government restrictions apply in relation to Covid-19 we are offering free extensions on all experiences so you can take your experience when the time is right.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date

Availability

Please note this experience is not available 15 to 11 November inclusive, and from 12 December to 5 February 2023. 

The experience is available throughout the year. Exclusions may apply.

Open daily 10.00 to 17.00
Grounds open daily 08.00 to 23.00
Afternoon tea is served at 13.30, 14.30 and 15.30

Visits generally last 75 to 90 minutes with additional time for tea but visitors are welcome to stay as long as they’d like.

What about insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.
