Legendary Ruthin Castle has been welcoming guests, including kings and queens, for several hundred years. Set amid acres of woods and parkland in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Ruthin Castle is a truly romantic hotel steeped in history. The castle dates back to the legend of King Arthur with notable owners including King Edward I, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The Library Bar and Cornwallis Lounge with its fabulous carved stone fireplace are ideal locations to enjoy your traditional afternoon tea. Or why not enjoy your tea ‘al fresco’ on the adjoining Bar Terrace or in the Peacock Garden with views over the castle grounds in warmer months?

Lumley Castle - County Durham
Standing proud for more than 600 years, the magnificent spectacle of Lumley Castle dominates the County Durham landscape. Surrounded by beautiful parklands overlooking the River Wear and Durham County Cricket Ground, Lumley Castle is a magnificent monument to a bygone age of chivalry and honour. You’ll enjoy a delicious spread of assorted finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves, a selection of freshly baked cakes all served with a selection of fine teas and coffee.  This can be enjoyed in either in the Library Bar or Black Knight Restaurant  both rooms are comfortable with features you would expect from a stunning 13th Century Castle.

Chiddingstone Castle - Kent
Set in 35 acres of beautiful grounds including a lake open to fishermen, a rose garden, and magnificent woodland, this glorious castle in Kent is an ideal venue to enjoy a cream tea for two before wandering around the historic site. Throughout the opening season, visitors can discover Samurai Warriors, Egyptian treasures and enjoy nature trails in the grounds. You’ll enjoy your scrumptious cream tea for two, including two homemade scones, Cornish clotted cream and homemade jam each, with a choice of tea or coffee in the delightful vintage Tea Room, before entering the castle for a self-guided tour.

"Cram tea at a castle"

We were given a voucher for entry to Chiddingstone castle and a cream tea in the cafe. The castle had some spectacular rooms, and some scary japanese armour exhibits.

The scones were delicious and came with raspberry jam (a welcome change from the usual strawberry jam) and copious quantities of clotted cream. very decadent!
